nicole + bryan | harbor east | baltimore engagement photographer

When I first met Nicole and Bryan, it was love at first conversation! Our personalities clicked as we talked about our passion for living in Baltimore, Nicole’s job as a teacher (my sister is one too!) and our love of their wedding venue, the American Visionary Art Museum.

Since these wonderful lovebirds officially becoming engaged while sailing, we had to capture their love along the water in Harbor East! We debated a few different locations, but when it came down to it, all signs pointed back to the Baltimore waterfront… and you can clearly see how comfortable and at ease they were there!

I love it when couples choose the location of their engagement photos because I know it will hold so much meaning to them and their relationship. If there’s any advice I can offer you as you’re planning your engagement session, it’s to choose a spot that relates to where you met, where you got engaged or where you spend most of your time together. It’s kind of like choosing your wedding venue – once your location is set, everything else falls magically into place! 🙂

Now let’s talk about how perfectly Nicole’s amazing hair and patterned dress blended with the tall grasses along the water and that golden hour glow… 🙂

LOVE!!! You two are seriously too cute for words.

Once changed into their casual-yet-super-cute-and-so-well-coordinated second outfits, we were off to explore the streets of Harbor East. I can’t get enough of how sweet and joyful they are together! They swore they’d never modeled before, but I’m pretty sure they’re pros.

harbor-east-baltimore-engagement-photographer_0011We came full circle and ended our time together at the water; Light City was in full force, the sun was setting like never before and I was overjoyed to be able to spend my evening with such a genuinely adorable couple.

I am SO excited to capture your wedding at the AVAM in July and know it will be nothing short of spectacular!!!

xoxo, N

royal sonesta harbor court wedding | baltimore wedding photographer | sara + jake

She grew up in Harford county. He grew up in Carroll county. They met junior year at Stevenson University and bought their first home together in Baltimore City adjacent to Patterson Park, because they love urban life with their 2 dogs. 🙂

Watching Sara + Jake together makes it easy to understand why they are so perfect for each other; we had an incredible time along the water for their spring engagement session, so we all knew their wedding day would be even that much more incredible!

They make an adorable team, and are constantly cheering the other on in so many aspects of life! Sara’s parents and sister and brother-in-law were all married on September 4th as well. Now Teresa and Richard will share the same wedding anniversary with both of their daughters – isn’t that the sweetest?!

Glamorous, formal, royal and fancy was the way Sara described their wedding vision the first time we met… I think it’s safe to say it was definitely that, and so much more!!

Sara’s friend (and bridesmaid!) Natalie designed all of the paper goods, including their crest and the caricature on the cutest koozie wedding favor you’ve ever seen. So many unique personal touches to all of the wedding details made the day a dream to capture at the Royal Sonesta overlooking Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on a bright, sunny fall day…

During so much of our time together, Sara kept mentioning how excited she was to see Jake all dressed up in his tux – so dapper!!

Hands down. Cutest flower girl EVER. #allthehearteyes

Sara, you were such a stunning sight in your Maggie Sottero dress and Betsey Johnson shoes, both with champagne undertones and just the right amount of delicate sparkle!

Time for a daddy daughter first look that makes it all so real… 🙂

I love the focus and concern… donut wedding cake for the win!

So glad we had such a wonderfully fun couple that was willing to head outside to take some epic night portraits along the water!

Here’s to wishing you both the best as you celebrate your newlywed status! We loved having the honor of being your wedding photographer and hope you cherish the memories of officially starting your lives together in such a romantic and meaningful way! xoxo

sara + jake | tide point | baltimore engagement session

I knew from the first time we met at the Daily Grind in Fells Point, that Sara and Jake were an incredible couple and would be so much fun to get to know. As soon as Sara mentioned they just bought their first house near Patterson Park and wanted photos that tell the story of the start of their relationship together in Baltimore while living an urban lifestyle, I couldn’t stop smiling – their story is so similar to mine!

While celebrating Sara’s mom’s 60th birthday, Jake told Sara they should take their dogs, “Rizzo and Natty for a swim off the end of the pier…” With flowers and champagne setup , Jake knew how to not only surprise Sara but involve the entire family in celebrating their love. A homecooked shrimp scampi dinner was waiting for them after she said yes. 🙂

Your warmth is contagious and I love how genuinely happy you make each other. Congratulations again, Sara and Jake! So excited for your wedding this September (which happens to be a very meaningful date – the same September day that Sara’s parents and sister were both married)! Isn’t that just the sweetest tradition?!

city life in detail: 05.09.16

If the end of April and beginning of May are any indication of the weather to come this summer, I hope the rainy days are behind us and the mild temperatures will stick around!

While out and about last week during the constant rain, I was determined to find beauty, color and unique elements in the everyday. Just because the skies are gray, doesn’t mean you need to be! 🙂

Hope you’re enjoying this photography series focused on urban life! Some of my previous posts focused on Georgetown, pops of red, local antiques and food. I’d love to know what your favorite kind of images are; are they colored shots? B+W? Rowhomes? Landscapes? Food? Pets? Spill it… 🙂 What’s your favorite part of Charm City that I should capture?

Here’s what’s caught my eye this week…

Layering. Greenery. Transportation. Brick.

Progress. Development. Neighborhood investment.

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

Window boxes. Colored shutters. Stained Glass. (One of my favorite local stained glass artists is WhollyTerra – if your rowhouse transom is currently bare, you need to fix that by contacting Steve!)

Sculptural architecture. Movement. Saturated.

Union Station. Silhouettes. Shopping.

Processed with VSCO with b5 preset

Golden light at night. Peaceful. Classic architecture.

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

Here’s to the start of another week – it may be another dreary Monday, but sometimes putting comfy shoes on and going exploring with a camera (and it doesn’t need to be fancy – an iPhone camera is good enough!) in hand is all you need to change your mood! And on the topic of looking up, this is a wonderfully honest post from a friend of mine that is a good reminder that all of us are trying to keep our heads up and manage life in our own way… I’ll have to add Sarah Hepola’s memoir to my must-read list.

a fells point wedding open house!

Today’s an exciting day for the Admiral Fells Inn and the Inn at Henderson’s Wharf… they’re having a wedding open house from 11am to 3pm and you should stop by! If you’re engaged and looking for the perfect intimate, classic and timeless wedding venue with a bonus of incredible inner harbor views, no need to look further…!

Fells is one of favorite Charm City neighborhoods (if you didn’t already know that!) and I couldn’t be more excited to work with Vanesia and the entire Harbor Magic team – they know how to make magic happen (did you see what I did there? lol) in the most historic Baltimore hotels. 🙂

In honor of today’s event, let’s go back and visit one of my favorite engagement shoots to occur at Henderson’s Wharf

maryland science center | baltimore, md wedding | kristina + ed

For devoted Star Wars fans and science geeks that loved the idea of exchanging vows under a starry sky (with the exact sky from their first date, mind you. During the ceremony, the sky transitioned to their wedding date! Technology is amazing…), the Maryland Science Center was quite the perfect fit for Kristina and Ed’s Baltimore wedding! These two are so perfect together – they have a quiet, calm sensibility about them but I just love how with one look from Kristina, Ed’s face breaks out into the biggest smile you’ve ever seen. You may remember their adorable love from our Federal Hill engagement session… can you recognize Ed? I almost didn’t! 😉

The bridal party got ready at the Lord Baltimore Hotel on Baltimore St. It was the perfect historic setting to contrast the contemporary architecture of the Science Center where they exchanged vows and celebrated as husband and wife.

4_urbanrowphoto_lord_baltimore_hotel5_urbanrowphoto_wedding_ring6_urbanrowphoto_jewelry_detailsKristina gave her girls gold Kate Spade charm bracelets that had the words ‘Partner In Crime’ engraved and were the perfect accessory with their bordeaux bridesmaid gowns. All of Kristina’s jewelry was exquisite; just the right amount of sparkle to create a timeless and classic look. The necklace Ed gave her brought tears to my eyes!

My second shooter (who happens to be my husband!) has 5 brothers, so he was completely at home with the idea of lots of men getting ready together in a small hotel room. There were so many fun, candid moments of guys just being guys.
11_urbanrowphoto_groomsmenWe searched for the perfect location for their first look and at the last minute, stumbled on the overlook to the hotel’s ballroom. This intimate series is one of my favorites from their day.

federal hill park | baltimore engagement session | kristina + ed

I’ve loved getting to know Kristina and Ed over the last few months – each time we’re together, we learn of more mutual friends we have in common (…it is quite a small world!) and I get to hear more about their love for all-things-science-related and Star Wars. Just wait until you see the details they are planning for their ‘nerdy chic’ wedding!

We decided to start their engagement session at Federal Hill Park, just steps away from their inner harbor wedding venue, the Maryland Science Center. The sky showed up big time, with perfectly dramatic clouds (looking imposing, but no rain!) and soft golden light.

Aren’t they the cutest? I really feel like they should be J. Crew models.

After a wardrobe change, it was getting closer to sunset and we spent some time discovering West Covington Park. It’s one of the newest parks to open along the Patapsco River and is an undiscovered gem! This 12 acre brownfield site was designed to foster native plants and wildlife and has a great network of meandering trails along the water.

Notice Ed’s socks in the photo below? What a fun way to sneak in some Maryland pride, I loved it. I can’t wait to see his socks on their wedding day!
We wrapped things up at the fishing pier cantilevered over the river. Kristina and Ed were so great at looking like professional models that do this all the time as I asked them to get all cozy while we tiptoed around a group of fisherman and all their gear, just out of frame in these photos! 🙂

You two have such a natural chemistry – we can’t wait to photograph your wedding in less than a month! Here’s to celebrating your love with all of your family and friends in what promises to be the best ‘nerdy chic’ wedding Baltimore has ever seen!

raquela + david | patterson park| baltimore engagement session

Less than 7 months to go until these lovebirds can call each other husband and wife! Their engagement countdown started 2 years out – it’s amazing how much time flies when you’re having fun (or in their case, successfully buying a house/moving and planning a wedding all at the same time!).

Since the Highlandtown/Patterson Park area is the first place they’ve called home together, it only made sense to start our session at one of the best urban art installations I’ve ever seen…which happens to be in their neighborhood. 🙂

Continuing our session with some of the most unique landmarks in Charm City, the pagoda in Patterson Park was our next stop. R+D were so photogenic wherever we went. I love that Dave’s presence lends itself to Raquela’s megawatt smile. every. time!

The Inner Harbor has been the site of festivals, performances, war ships, and many other memorable events over the years, but for R+D, it will simply be the place their lives changed for the better when they got engaged and started their journey towards married life! I love the sparkle in both of their eyes as they think about their future together…

You two have so much to look forward to this year! I’m so glad we had the opportunity to capture these fleeting moments together and I hope the playful energy and love that you shared with me only continues to grow stronger as your relationship gets sweeter and more established. Here’s to your October wedding at Rawlings Conservatory being full of incredibly vibrant color, intimate moments among family and memories that will carry you a lifetime. I can’t wait!

PS – Happy Birthday, R! Today’s the start of a year like no other! 🙂
