patterson park + fells point engagement | lauren + matt | baltimore wedding photographer

All of my couples have such personality and fun-loving stories, but I can’t get over how much Lauren and Matt have in common with each other (and with me)… making it so easy to capture their adorably sweet love for each other and where they live!

(Spoiler alert: they live one block away from where Anthony and I lived for almost 8 years… within walking distance to the Patterson Park Pagoda, so naturally we had to start there!)

I couldn’t begin to tell their story as well as they can in their own words, so without further ado… Lauren shares how their love story came to be (so many quintessential Baltimore bars/restaurants played a role in their first date! I love that!):

“Matt & I met right after he moved to Baltimore City. One of my best friends had just turned 21 and we wanted to find a place to go out. She had known Matt & his friends for quite some time and reconnected with his roommate. I got to meet Matt & Chris as Matt had just gotten back from the gym and gave us a tour of the house (and I knew I liked him immediately!) and then went to go get ready to go out. A little while later we took a cab (back when people still took cabs… :)) down to Canton and went to Nacho Mama’s! We all shared a Hubcap margarita at the bar. Matt and I were pretty engrossed with each other at that point — we talked and talked and learned a lot about each other. We even kissed in the cab that night on the way back to their place. 🙂 They invited us back down the next night and we went to Ale Mary’s and Bad Decisions and then Matt took me to the National Zoo in DC the next morning. And that was it. I think we both knew where we stood pretty quickly and hung out pretty much every weekend after that…”

Can we just stop for a second and have a moment with this GORGEOUS one-of-a-kind ring that Matt gave Lauren? I’ve never seen anything like it and can’t stop staring at it! A custom pear shaped yellow diamond?!

lauren + matt engagement

Living steps from Patterson Park and loving the walk along the Fells Point waterfront,  I can’t get enough of their perfect embraces and snuggly selves… everything about our night together was picture perfect!!

Their proposal story is SO sweet… but I also just love how real it starts out! How many of you have struggled with “…relaxing vacation or adventure trip?!”

“We have always struggled a bit with our travel preferences — the best way I can describe it is that I prefer “vacations” where Matt prefers “trips”. After a long few weeks of “trips” with our friends, we had a long conversation about my need for a vacation from our trips… He immediately got to work planning a weekend a few months later in Hudson, NY. A place where he promised that there was so little to do that even he could not turn the vacation into a trip. We stayed in a cute AirBnB, explored the town a little the first day and went to a nice meal. The next day we did some more exploring and then went back to the house to relax and then shower and get ready for dinner. I was sitting on the bed reading and he suddenly came in and let me know that he had decided we REALLY needed to go check this place a few miles away out. And that we HAD to go that evening before dinner. So, begrudgingly, I pulled my hair up in a messy bun, threw on a giant sweatshirt and converse and hopped into the car. We got to Olana (a gorgeous house designed and decorated by Frederic Church with beautiful details all over it, overlooking the Hudson River) and walked around a bit, the house was already closed, so I was honestly a bit annoyed that we were there… we made our way through the yard and sat down on a bench looking back up at the house, it was really nice because no one else was around since the house had closed for the day. And that’s when he did it. 🙂 It was lovely — and I was super appreciative that he knows me well enough to have found such a peaceful quiet spot for it! I later learned that while I was hosting my best friend’s bachelorette party in Ocean City a few weekends earlier, he had recruited his brother to drive all the way to Hudson with him, check out Olana, to make sure he liked it and had a plan and grabbed lunch and drove all of the way home!! He hadn’t told anyone besides his brother, so it was fun making the calls and actually surprising everyone with the news.”

annie + chris | fells point wedding | baltimore wedding photographer

Making each other laugh is one of the most important aspects of any relationship. Not only was Annie + Chris’ wedding a celebration of their love and commitment to each other, but it was one incredible laughter filled moment after another!!

I remember hearing Annie talk about her boyfriend years back when we first met. She’d tell me how she couldn’t wait until the day he got around to proposing so she could plan their wedding and they “would just be married already!” Well, lady, it’s official. You two are officially husband and wife and a perfect match (although you do have some catching up to do in the height department, ha)!

Your vision of this day came together beautifully and we’re so honored to have been able to capture it all!!

The Camden Yards ticket window makes me feel so nostalgic for a day at the ballpark. I love that Chris was able to get ready there with all of his groomsman by his side!!

I don’t know about you, but I’m STILL obsessed with these striped navy blue bridesmaids dresses! Annie, you have such adorable taste – all of the navy and white classic wedding details were spot on!! So stylish, fun and timeless all at the same time.

The guys had so much fun and were so lucky to get ready at Camden Yards!! Talk about a quintessential Baltimore experience on your wedding day; for a groom that’s never been far from a baseball diamond, it was perfect.

When your second shooter NAILS IT!!

I remember Annie telling me she really wanted to have a photo of Chris’ reaction as she walked down the aisle (…would there be tears?). Well, that’s a shot we always prioritize capturing; especially in this instance, you can see why.

When it hits you… that “we’re married” moment! Like no other!!

After the ceremony we captured portraits of the new Mr. + Mrs. Merrick in Otterbein and it was absolutely perfect! We found a quaint cobblestone filled alley street (like Baltimore has so many of!) and got cozy among golden hour light and love. We only had a few minutes before whisking away to the reception, but I’m so glad we made some time to capture these moments of the newlyweds – just look at how Chris looks at his new WIFE! I love it.

best bridal party intro ever!!!

Chris’ brother Kevin, was on Ninja Warrior’s college madness show this past Fall. He’s quite an athlete and introduced himself by flipping across the dance floor! It all happened so fast… but here’s proof that he nailed the landing. 🙂

oh, the epic speeches…

This right here, might have been the most amazing reception moment I’ve had in my career… all of a sudden, Smooth Criminal came on and Annie ROCKED it out with such fierce moves, I felt like I should have paid for tickets to the show!

“Annie, are you okay? Are you okay, Annie?”

You’re stuck with him now, Annie! 😉

Cheers to a beautiful couple and an amazing family! We wish you lots of love, laughter and Louisiana memories to relive forever and ever!

admiral fell inn wedding photographer | baltimore, md | jordyn & tim

The first time I met Jordyn and Tim, it was a cold January day with windy snow flurries breezing through the city. During their engagement session, it was also pretty chilly and we had to get creative in keeping everyone moving to stay warm! On their wedding day, it was a perfectly warm June day with bright blue skies and beaming sunshine. Even mother nature was excited for their big day. 🙂

They initially described to me that their vision for their wedding day was a romantic and elegant celebration that incorporated close family and friends; it was exactly that and more. I love, love, love seeing a couple’s vision come together and tell the story of not only the day they become husband and wife, but the moments and stories that have gotten them to this day!

Timeless beauty found it’s way throughout each and every detail; Jordyn’s lace Maggie Sottero wedding dress, the floor length blush pink bridesmaids dresses and gold sequined junior bridesmaids dresses were ahhh-mazing and so perfectly complimentary to the soft, romantic theme.

Jordyn + Tim’s engagement session also had a refined garden sensibility about it, where the girls wore the sweetest spring colored dresses and Jordyn had both pink and green on, a nod to their wedding colors?!

I absolutely love working with Ellen of Local Color Flowers and when I heard that she was providing all of the floral details, I knew we were going to be blown away… I could have photographed that bouquet all day, with every detail next to it. I honestly had to force myself to take it out of some of the photos, ha!

I was honestly speechless when I saw her shoes and the dress’ edge detail together – it’s like they were made for each other!

Tim, you had such dapper style with that bowtie, the green suspenders and matching socks…

Ummm, let’s just talk about these flower crowns for a second, shall we? How sweet and adorable are they!? It doesn’t hurt that Tim’s 3 girls are the most down to earth, well-mannered, loving and gorgeous young ladies I’ve ever met. I can only hope my daughter grows up to be just like them.

First look LOVE! This spot in Mt. Vernon is one of my favorites: an incredibly lush urban space with numerous stately and historic rowhomes lining the park. All of the pastel color within the gardens and building details were THE perfect backdrop for their first time seeing each other!

Time for some of the best groom’s looks ever, as he watched his stunning bride walk down the aisle to meet him… in one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen.

After portraits in the park, we made our way down to Todd Conner’s on Broadway in Fells Point. This bar is where Jordyn and Tim met for the first time by way of their mutual friend Kevin, and it was so much fun taking a break from the formal nature of the wedding day, to toast to the happy couple in the spot where it all began!

The Admiral Fell Inn in the heart of Fells Point (one of my favorite historic Baltimore neighborhoods!), seemed to literally glow with golden love for these two. Every detail was thought through and perfectly executed by friends and family to add to the feel of their elegant reception. Jordyn’s mom and Tim’s daughter assembled the books that made up the table centerpieces; the table numbers were borrowed from a close friend of Jordyn’s from JMU. Jordyn’s dad built the gift card box and her mom made the ribbon – their whole family is so talented and creative!

And then this happened… 🙂

I can’t say it enough, but you two are so, so perfect together! You completely compliment each other in every way; your passion and fun-loving nature will create the foundation for an incredibly joyful and successful marriage for years to come! Best wishes! xoxo

a fells point wedding open house!

Today’s an exciting day for the Admiral Fells Inn and the Inn at Henderson’s Wharf… they’re having a wedding open house from 11am to 3pm and you should stop by! If you’re engaged and looking for the perfect intimate, classic and timeless wedding venue with a bonus of incredible inner harbor views, no need to look further…!

Fells is one of favorite Charm City neighborhoods (if you didn’t already know that!) and I couldn’t be more excited to work with Vanesia and the entire Harbor Magic team – they know how to make magic happen (did you see what I did there? lol) in the most historic Baltimore hotels. 🙂

In honor of today’s event, let’s go back and visit one of my favorite engagement shoots to occur at Henderson’s Wharf

melissa + jim | fells point | baltimore engagement session

Melissa and Jim are the kind of adorable couple that you feel you’ve known for years. They’re quick to joke and make light of any situation in a way that simply puts you at ease. They met in grad school in North Carolina and both have a passion for landscape architecture. When trying to choose our session location, we had so many similar thoughts about our favorite spots in the city!

This kind of fun posing occurred throughout the evening. I don’t think I’ve laughed this much while walking through Fells Point in a long time!

The lighting was stunning. Their love is a breath of fresh air.

I wish I could have been so relaxed when our wedding was 2 months away…table centerpieces, guest welcome bags, the list seemed never-ending. Melissa chose to take the other route. During our first meeting she mentioned “we want it to feel like a party that happens to result in 2 people being married.” YES. That’s the right attitude!

We are SO excited to shoot your wedding in September and hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!

pigtails and pebble play.

When Brandy contacted me saying they had recently moved to Baltimore from California and wanted photos showcasing the local architecture and backdrop of Charm City, I felt like a kid in a candy shop. So many spots and ideas came to mind! After living here for 8+ years and walking along the promenade more times than I’d like to count, I had to go with one of my favorites…

That’s right, we ended up in Fells and it was the perfect morning to be along the water.

When we moved our party to the grass, Little M knew exactly how to liven things up!

This cutie-patootie was a ball of energy, smiles and laughter, whether running through the grass, skipping down the sidewalk or searching for flowers. It was adorable and made me wish it was acceptable to wear my hair like that once in awhile. 😉

I just love the expressiveness these 3 shared together. From M’s perfect little cheeks to the way she looked up at her mom and dad, I had so much fun getting to know this delightful family!

Seriously, don’t you LOVE her hair?! It’s the definition of innocent playfulness and sweet curiosity to me.

I hope you all had as much fun as I did…thanks for allowing me to join you in one of my favorite Charm City neighborhoods! I know you’re going to love it here and I hope our paths cross again soon. 🙂

erin + jim | fells point | baltimore engagement session

We started our session in front of one of my favorite buildings along the harbor, Henderson’s Wharf, at dusk…and these two couldn’t have been cuter!

She’s the type of girl who can stop traffic with her shimmery blond hair and girl-next-door sweet smile. He’s one of the sweetest guys you’ll meet…and the way he looks at Erin will melt your heart…

If you know anything about me, it’s that I love color and I don’t shy away from it. In my wardrobe, my home and even in my food, color is where it’s at! However, this may be one of my favorite shots. 🙂

These lovebirds were such a joy to shoot and I had an amazing time walking along the harbor with them. The way they put each other at ease and completely enjoyed each moment is indicative of their gentle and adorable love. Erin + Jim were so cute and photogenic, that our little entourage was the source of some commotion among a group of boaters in Fells Point. True story! They rolled with it though and managed to take some lovely shots along the historic pier.

They’re planning a stunning wedding only a few steps away from here…and live near my favorite park in the city. We had so much to chat about, I didn’t want the evening to end!

I love this series. Love their expression, love the details, just lots of love all over the place.

Fun fact: 2 seconds after I shot the photo of them walking near the Horse You Came In On along Thames St., a roar of Ravens and O’s fans came barreling down the street in the brightest and loudest parade of purple and orange buses/trucks blaring their sirens, that you’d ever seen; it was scary, awesome and totally Charm City at its finest. I was hoping to get a photo of Erin + Jim amongst the crazy fanfare, but it happened so fast that they were gone by the time we realized what was going on!

The perfect way to end a marvelous night = relaxing at the edge of the pier with a whole harbor view. And of course, the love of your life by your side. 🙂

Laughs with Langley

After our first photoshoot at the AVAM, I knew capturing Langley was going to be one of those sessions I look forward to year after year.  She’s always ready to kick back and have some fun while we shoot and she’s totally mastered the “smile, now serious and back to smile again” look. Sidenote: a little tidbit about me, I’m completely envious of people (like Langley!) that can flash a winning smile and go right into a serious face…I am not one of those people. Maybe that’s why I love taking the photographs…? 😛

Anyway, we had a gorgeous, breezy (for once, it wasn’t 90 degrees yet!) Sunday morning all to ourselves walking around Fells Point. One of the things I noticed and love about this photoshoot is how relaxed Langley is in front of the camera!

Have a great school year, L! With your confident smile and friendly personality, you’re going to be quite the popular gal. I can’t wait to catch up in another few months…along the waterfront, of course! That’s our spot!

melissa + eric | fells point | baltimore wedding reception

In case you forgot where we left off yesterday, it had something to do with this gorgeous bride and her handsome ringbearer…

The Broadway Pier was a fun location for some quick photos with the bridal party before dinner began.  Old-world cobblestone streets, hustle and bustle of local shops amongst harbor waterfront activity…it’s one of Baltimore’s most photogenic spots. Add two lovebirds and you have a recipe for spectacular photos!

An intimate reception with family and friends was held at Meli in historic Fells Point.   Meli’s lower level offered a romantic, candle-lit atmosphere for catching up, conversation, and cake-smashing! (I think they surprised everyone with that!)

We wish you a lifetime of happiness as you begin this new chapter in your lives, Melissa + Eric. Good luck with the move, let us know when you’re back in town for a visit!
