our endless adventure | federal hill lifestyle photos | baltimore small business photographer

I’ve been so lucky to have the opportunity to capture so many passionate entrepreneurs and small business owners recently! This intro is long overdue, but small business photography is not only another service I’ve begun offering within the DMV area, it’s absolutely a passion project of mine.

With a focus on visual storytelling and candid moments, my love of details and capturing an authentic sense of place combine to form an of-the-moment style and aesthetic. What does that really mean? It means I want your passion, creativity, personality and style to be at the forefront of every image. I don’t want to capture a professional headshot of you on a static gray background (but if you’re looking for that, I have very talented friends that I can refer you to!)… I want you to be in your element. I want your mixing bowls to be dripping and counters to have crumbs on them, if you’re a baker/chef (what’s up B-More Kitchen crew!). I want your camera in hand if you’re a fellow photographer and your colored pencils moving if you’re an illustrator! I’ll ask you to get your hands dirty if you’re a gardener (speaking of, stay tuned for an upcoming post featuring an incredibly talented Baltimore container gardener!) and I’ll want your floor covered in wood shavings if you’re a furniture maker (hey, Made in Baltimore friends, I’m talking to you!)… you get the point.

So, when Becky, a marketing consultant, photographer and lifestyle blogger at Our Endless Adventure reached out in need of some fun portraits and lifestyle images, I knew this was going to be an incredible shoot!

I remember meeting Becky in person for the first time at a gathering of fellow Baltimore creatives, through our local Tuesdays Together group (part of the larger Rising Tide Society network)… she was so approachable and fun to talk to, knowing of so many unique places to eat, see and enjoy around Charm City. Her passion for travel, city life and creative exploration is unmatched! Oh, and after discovering her love of cheese, I knew we needed to hang out again soon.

If you aren’t already following along on her journey, you should stop reading this now, and head right on over to her Insta and change that… 🙂 I don’t accept any responsibility for being biten by the travel bug after you start keeping up with her adventures!

We started off at 3 Bean Coffee and I’m pretty sure we couldn’t have chosen a better spot. Just look at how perfectly her shirt, hair and the tones of 3 Bean’s interior finishes complimented each other… hellloooo, HAPPY ACCIDENT! For real though, we changed our plan at the last minute due to a crazy summer storm rolling through and I’ve never been happier that rain changed our plans!!

Even her iced tea came along for the amber colored party! Made my “lets coordinate yet try not to be matchy-matchy” photographer’s heart so happy.

Isn’t she the best??

Heading over to Federal Hill park was a fun way to spot all the best pastel colored rowhouses and slow down in the humidity.

If you don’t already know about the Live A Great Story movement, I love what it stands for. In their own words, it’s a “brand inspired by the idea we are all on a journey to live our own story. Regardless of the color of our skin, the language we speak, the part of of the world we came from, we’re all on a life long journey to live our best life… and in that we can inspire those around us to keep moving forward in their own journey.” As an ambassador, Becky will share her passion, creativity and positive outlook to spread the LIVE inspiration within her community. I’m not aware of a place that doesn’t need positive inspiration, so I’d encourage all of you to consider doing your part to ‘live a great story’ and share it with the world!

We ended at our favorite local museum, the American Visionary Art Museum. Becky and I both visited AVAM when we first came to Baltimore and fell even more in love with this city after experiencing it. So, it was a natural spot to end our shoot on a high note!

Lots more to come for this talented lady – be sure to follow her cross-country road trip adventures in the cutest little camper over the next 2 months!

As for me, I’m excited to share more small business photography in the coming weeks! I’d love to capture your passion, your business and your brand. Don’t be a stranger… the world needs more of your talent and it all starts with “one good image” (as everyone always tells me that’s all they need, lol!).

xo,
Naomi

Courtney + Mike are my kind of people… dog people. 🙂 They also live in a rowhouse in Federal Hill with amazing city views and so much character.

Meet Chubs! When I showed up at their house, Courtney showed me this sign that her mom had gotten Chubs to wear during our time together. Is it not the cutest accessory?!

So much of their story (first date… surprise proposal…) started with Ryleigh’s in Federal Hill, so it was a must during our time together! I love when my couples choose to be photographed in meaningful places to their relationship; it adds a level of comfort, familiarity and fun to all of our photos. Not to mention, when standing in front of popular bars on a Sunday, you become an instant celebrity and the paparazzi effect is in full force… why not rock it, like these sweet lovebirds did?!

I love their love… fun, easygoing, hardworking and supportive; there’s nothing these two won’t do together!

Used my newest lens for most of these shots, the Tamron 85mm 1.8, and I’m totally obsessed! Crisp yet dreamy… just how I like my images and couples. 😉

federal hill park | baltimore engagement session | kristina + ed

I’ve loved getting to know Kristina and Ed over the last few months – each time we’re together, we learn of more mutual friends we have in common (…it is quite a small world!) and I get to hear more about their love for all-things-science-related and Star Wars. Just wait until you see the details they are planning for their ‘nerdy chic’ wedding!

We decided to start their engagement session at Federal Hill Park, just steps away from their inner harbor wedding venue, the Maryland Science Center. The sky showed up big time, with perfectly dramatic clouds (looking imposing, but no rain!) and soft golden light.

Aren’t they the cutest? I really feel like they should be J. Crew models.

After a wardrobe change, it was getting closer to sunset and we spent some time discovering West Covington Park. It’s one of the newest parks to open along the Patapsco River and is an undiscovered gem! This 12 acre brownfield site was designed to foster native plants and wildlife and has a great network of meandering trails along the water.

Notice Ed’s socks in the photo below? What a fun way to sneak in some Maryland pride, I loved it. I can’t wait to see his socks on their wedding day!
We wrapped things up at the fishing pier cantilevered over the river. Kristina and Ed were so great at looking like professional models that do this all the time as I asked them to get all cozy while we tiptoed around a group of fisherman and all their gear, just out of frame in these photos! 🙂

You two have such a natural chemistry – we can’t wait to photograph your wedding in less than a month! Here’s to celebrating your love with all of your family and friends in what promises to be the best ‘nerdy chic’ wedding Baltimore has ever seen!

Smiles and Swings with the S Family!

Friends of friends of friends are awesome. Whenever I get a chance to work with people that know friends of ours, I drop everything to make sure it happens. I mean, who wouldn’t drop everything to spend the morning with this little lady?

I have a soft spot for big dogs and red wagons. 🙂 Then I got a glimpse of Olivia’s sparkle shoes and it was all over. I wanted to hang out with these 4 the rest of the afternoon.

There was so much love and laughter throughout our time together – my job was incredibly easy! Olivia’s bright and inquisitive, big brown-eyed expressions totally won me over from the second we started; even Cooper their dog, was super sweet and photogenic.

This next photo makes me think Olivia is looking up at her Mom & Dad and thinking, “…aren’t they awesome? These two rock my world!” I’m pretty sure they think the same of you, Olivia. 😉

Thank you for inviting me to spend time with your family for a few hours! I wish you nothing but the best as you make fabulous memories together in year 2!

nina + andy | federal hill | baltimore engagement session

It was the 2nd day of 2012 and Mother Nature was pretty intent on showing us that the mild weather was a thing of the past and cold, windy wintery days were here to stay. That doesn’t mean we had to play by her rules though!

Nina and Andy were absolute troopers and made it seem like it was just another 60 degree day. 🙂 We trekked around Federal Hill park and Fells Point to get a host of awesome shots and fun poses…two of my favorite spots in the city!

I absolutely loved Nina’s boots. They just made the outfit! There may or may not have been a photo similar to this one at each stop we made. 😉

I wish you both nothing but warm, fun-filled days ahead as you embark on the beginning of new adventures as a married couple!

Living It Up with Langley

When Langley’s mom contacted me about her daughter’s photoshoot, we considered a bunch of locations within Baltimore city. All of them could have been great, but the one we landed on was spot on perfection. Not only was the sun out with bright blue skies and crisp air, but the building sparkled and the water glistened. We got to walk through gardens, lean up against mosaic walls and stare at the almost-Manhattan-like-skyline.

Ok, maybe that Manhattan part is a bit of a stretch when you’re looking at Baltimore’s waterfront, but one of Langley’s favorite places to visit (and shop! my kind of gal…) is New York City, so I wanted to try to capture the spirit and spunk of this fun-loving lady combined with the funky architecture and accessible waterfront similar to New York.

We had so much fun chatting together and finding different spots to pose in…Langley was such an easy-going girl with an adorably contagious smile!

Sparkly and bright. Just like this young lady. 🙂 I hope you had fun! Thanks for the opportunity to work together!!
