best of 2017: urban row by the numbers!

As we quickly approach the official start of 2018, I couldn’t help but TRY to get one last blog post up… eeeeeek! If I’m making any resolutions whatsoever, it’s to check more blog posts off my list. Annie’s face says it all:

Considering I’m WAY behind in sharing all the beautiful love that made up Urban Row’s 2017 weddings and engagements, I’m going to spread the love out over a few summary posts in the coming days/weeks before I get to the full posts! …you’re welcome. 😉

We had a lot of milestone firsts this year, including traveling to Italy to document Maggie + Ben’s Cinque Terre wedding in May – an amazing trip in SO. MANY. WAYS!

urban-row-photo-cinque-terre-wedding-photographer_0015We welcomed 3 times as many URP couples to the family as we did in 2016… and 2018 is right on track with record numbers, a booth at 2 bridal shows/venue open houses in January, a super exciting new brand aesthetic to be revealed, an updated and revamped bridal guide hitting mailboxes soon for our 2018 couples and lots of behind-the-scenes business education efforts being invested in…!urban-row-photo-cinque-terre-wedding-photographer_0014I can’t wait to see where 2018 takes us! I’m so crazy excited to make creative magic behind the camera at new venues and returning to established ones, with new lovebirds and recent newlyweds heading towards the first anniversary and with the help of experienced vendors and new movers and shakers in the always evolving wedding industry… CHEERS to making memories together!!!

nicole + bryan | american visionary art museum wedding | baltimore wedding photographer

It’s hard to describe how much of a connection I felt with Nicole + Bryan as I got to know such wonderful people… I miss them so much now that their day is over, but luckily, have these photos to share and relive each and every adorable moment, expression and glance! Their love is so genuine and gentle, honest and playful… throughout their engagement and wedding day, it was so obvious how in love they are and perfect for each other!!

We chatted about our love for Charm City during our first meeting, laughed our way along the waterfront during their engagement photos (and here, see their feature on United with Love!) and made the most of their incredibly romantic and elegant wedding day at the American Visionary Art Museum – one of my FAVORITE places in Baltimore!

Never let a drizzly day get you down… these moments go to show you how much fun umbrellas and diffused light can be!

but first… I’m stilllllllll SWOONING over Nicole’s details!

These gifts from Bryan were so thoughtful and classic!

My color happy heart loved how their drinks matched their Le Rose robes!

Bryan and his groomsmen were so fun to capture – they couldn’t stop laughing and telling jokes but yet looked so perfectly dapper while doing so!

The definition of the most fun, vibrant, playful, iconic and unique wedding venue in Baltimore! AVAM never disappoints!!!

This may be one of my favorites of the day… absolutely filled with pure joy!!!

urban-row-photo-avam-wedding_0023

urban-row-photo-avam-wedding_0025

I loved how perfectly Nicole chose bridesmaid dresses that coordinated with the American Visionary Art Museum’s mosaic colors!! And then her sister/MOH’s dress being patterned yet in the same color family – so fun, unique and a dress that can be worn again…? win, Win, WIN!

We made sure to have time to sneak upstairs without guests seeing us before the ceremony, to capture more romantic portraits (ps – there can never be enough if you ask me!)… the catwalk of the AVAM has amazing light that pours through the small window openings!

urban-row-photo-avam-wedding_0031

urban-row-photo-avam-wedding_0032

I love seeing the unique angles my second shooter captures while I’m down on the ground and in the ceremony action! How many couples can say their ceremony includes a fluffy pink poodle named Fifi, a hot air balloon and an elephant (can you spot them all below?)!

urban-row-photo-avam-wedding_0034

I can’t get over how GORGEOUS Nicole’s cathedral veil is!! She only wore it during the ceremony since it was drizzling outside during our portrait time… I just love how much more romantic it made this moment!

I wanted to just bottle up Nicole’s energy, smile, and incredible warmth…!

Who knew umbrellas made things so romantic? 🙂

urban-row-photo-avam-wedding_0042

The inside of the JVRC banquet room is such a special space – it doesn’t need much decoration to make it shine! The warmth of the brick was highlighted with some simple uplighting and the exposed wood structure was the perfect backdrop for their elegant ivory and light blue hydrangea tablescapes.

urban-row-photo-avam-wedding_0043

The speeches were so heartfelt and heartwarming, I just loved seeing Nicole + Bryan reacting to her sister and his best friend’s words! And how neat is that “guest book” idea to use a framed print of Baltimore?!

These fun and festive wedding guests were absolutely amazing; guest group selfies are my new favorite ‘candid’ reception moment to capture!!

Is there a contest for cutest grandma dancing photo that I could enter this into? Because I’m pretty sure this one would win… 🙂

urban-row-photo-avam-wedding_0048

Ice cream, popsicles and the prettiest cake by WinniE’s Bakery add up to one of my favorite cake cutting shots; Nicole + Bryan’s faces say it all!!

Group photos? I say the larger the better… let’s do this, friends!!
urban-row-photo-avam-wedding_0057

Rather than using sparklers for their exit, Nicole’s mom planned an exit that used LED wands and allowed for such a fun and interactive way to send off the newlyweds! I loved this ‘Charm Car‘ golf cart that brought us to our iconic night portrait locations!!

Nicole + Bryan, we absolutely loved having the honor of capturing your day and getting to know you both throughout the process! I hope your honeymoon in Fiji was the relaxing treat you deserved!!! Here’s to many, many more years of making charming memories together!

our endless adventure | federal hill lifestyle photos | baltimore small business photographer

I’ve been so lucky to have the opportunity to capture so many passionate entrepreneurs and small business owners recently! This intro is long overdue, but small business photography is not only another service I’ve begun offering within the DMV area, it’s absolutely a passion project of mine.

With a focus on visual storytelling and candid moments, my love of details and capturing an authentic sense of place combine to form an of-the-moment style and aesthetic. What does that really mean? It means I want your passion, creativity, personality and style to be at the forefront of every image. I don’t want to capture a professional headshot of you on a static gray background (but if you’re looking for that, I have very talented friends that I can refer you to!)… I want you to be in your element. I want your mixing bowls to be dripping and counters to have crumbs on them, if you’re a baker/chef (what’s up B-More Kitchen crew!). I want your camera in hand if you’re a fellow photographer and your colored pencils moving if you’re an illustrator! I’ll ask you to get your hands dirty if you’re a gardener (speaking of, stay tuned for an upcoming post featuring an incredibly talented Baltimore container gardener!) and I’ll want your floor covered in wood shavings if you’re a furniture maker (hey, Made in Baltimore friends, I’m talking to you!)… you get the point.

So, when Becky, a marketing consultant, photographer and lifestyle blogger at Our Endless Adventure reached out in need of some fun portraits and lifestyle images, I knew this was going to be an incredible shoot!

urban-row-photography-lifestyle-small-business-photographer_0016

I remember meeting Becky in person for the first time at a gathering of fellow Baltimore creatives, through our local Tuesdays Together group (part of the larger Rising Tide Society network)… she was so approachable and fun to talk to, knowing of so many unique places to eat, see and enjoy around Charm City. Her passion for travel, city life and creative exploration is unmatched! Oh, and after discovering her love of cheese, I knew we needed to hang out again soon.

urban-row-photography-lifestyle-small-business-photographer_0012

If you aren’t already following along on her journey, you should stop reading this now, and head right on over to her Insta and change that… 🙂 I don’t accept any responsibility for being biten by the travel bug after you start keeping up with her adventures!

We started off at 3 Bean Coffee and I’m pretty sure we couldn’t have chosen a better spot. Just look at how perfectly her shirt, hair and the tones of 3 Bean’s interior finishes complimented each other… hellloooo, HAPPY ACCIDENT! For real though, we changed our plan at the last minute due to a crazy summer storm rolling through and I’ve never been happier that rain changed our plans!!

Even her iced tea came along for the amber colored party! Made my “lets coordinate yet try not to be matchy-matchy” photographer’s heart so happy.

Isn’t she the best??

Heading over to Federal Hill park was a fun way to spot all the best pastel colored rowhouses and slow down in the humidity.

If you don’t already know about the Live A Great Story movement, I love what it stands for. In their own words, it’s a “brand inspired by the idea we are all on a journey to live our own story. Regardless of the color of our skin, the language we speak, the part of of the world we came from, we’re all on a life long journey to live our best life… and in that we can inspire those around us to keep moving forward in their own journey.” As an ambassador, Becky will share her passion, creativity and positive outlook to spread the LIVE inspiration within her community. I’m not aware of a place that doesn’t need positive inspiration, so I’d encourage all of you to consider doing your part to ‘live a great story’ and share it with the world!

urban-row-photography-lifestyle-small-business-photographer_0010

We ended at our favorite local museum, the American Visionary Art Museum. Becky and I both visited AVAM when we first came to Baltimore and fell even more in love with this city after experiencing it. So, it was a natural spot to end our shoot on a high note!

Lots more to come for this talented lady – be sure to follow her cross-country road trip adventures in the cutest little camper over the next 2 months!

As for me, I’m excited to share more small business photography in the coming weeks! I’d love to capture your passion, your business and your brand. Don’t be a stranger… the world needs more of your talent and it all starts with “one good image” (as everyone always tells me that’s all they need, lol!).

xo,
Naomi

Living It Up with Langley

When Langley’s mom contacted me about her daughter’s photoshoot, we considered a bunch of locations within Baltimore city. All of them could have been great, but the one we landed on was spot on perfection. Not only was the sun out with bright blue skies and crisp air, but the building sparkled and the water glistened. We got to walk through gardens, lean up against mosaic walls and stare at the almost-Manhattan-like-skyline.

Ok, maybe that Manhattan part is a bit of a stretch when you’re looking at Baltimore’s waterfront, but one of Langley’s favorite places to visit (and shop! my kind of gal…) is New York City, so I wanted to try to capture the spirit and spunk of this fun-loving lady combined with the funky architecture and accessible waterfront similar to New York.

We had so much fun chatting together and finding different spots to pose in…Langley was such an easy-going girl with an adorably contagious smile!

Sparkly and bright. Just like this young lady. 🙂 I hope you had fun! Thanks for the opportunity to work together!!
